Working principle of worm gear reducer

Worm gear reducers are generally used as transmission equipment with low speed and high torque. Their function is to drive motors, internal combustion engines or other high-speed rotating machines.

And, force is achieved by the small gear module on the input shaft of gear reducer meshing with the large gear in the output shaft, thereby achieving the effect of deceleration. The ratio of the no. of teeth of a size gear is the transmission ratio.

Besides, worm gear reducers are mainly composed of individual components such as transmission gears. And gear-worm transmission enclosed in a rigid housing. Practically, they’re commonly used as speed reduction transmission devices between the prime mover and the working machine. So, it plays the role of matching rotational speeds and transmitting torque between the prime mover and the actuator of the working machine. And it’s widely used in modern machinery.

  • The box structure of the worm gear reducer is integral, with an elegant and generous appearance and good rigidity. The box types include the basic type and the universal type.
  • The input shaft connection methods of worm gear reducers include basic type (single input shaft and double input shaft) and with motor flange. There are two types of input shaft structures: basic type (single input shaft, double input shaft) and hollow input shaft.
  • The positions and directions of the output and input shafts of the worm gear reducer can be either the input shaft at the bottom or at the top. The input axis is upward and downward; The input axis is upward and downward.
  • Two or three reducers can be used to form a multi-stage reducer to achieve an extremely large transmission ratio.
